Scientific Activity

Experience of more than 20 years in in ecology and ecofisiology on Mediterranean forest ecosystem particularly in:

  •  climate change impact projects in Portuguese forests;

  •  carbon stocks and sequestration in soil and vegetation and contribution to GHG mitigation.

Current research topics deals with cork oak (Quercus suber) and stone pine (Pinus pinea) ecological interactions under dry and irrigated conditions. Particular interest in understanding how climate variability and nutrient availability affect growth and reproduction, creating silviculture solutions to increase cork and cone production either in pure or mixed stands.

My investigation focus on the valuation of Mediterranean forests products, briging economic profitability, the maintenance of ecosystem services and rural comunities needs.
